Sailing

Those who participate in competitive and recreational sailing are also People of the Sea. Events such as the Americas Cup, the Fastnet Yacht Race & the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race affect hundreds of sailors, their families, support teams, journalists and spectators, may of whom will be away from their home for weeks or months at a time.

Working with local parish churches, the Apostleship of the Sea reaches out to all those connected with the sailing community. Whether they enjoy sailing as a leisure activity or they earn their living in the sailing industry, the Apostleship of the Sea seeks to offer them pastoral care.

In 2002-03 the AOS International Office undertook a research programme on how the AOS network could offer pastoral care to those involved in international sailing competitions.
